How to Install Parallels
How to Install Parallels: This only applies to Students who need to have Parallels installed to access windows on their Macintosh Notebook. Your instructor will need to first instruct you that you need this program before you should proceed with installing it.
Make sure you are on the "Morningside" wireless network before beginning this process.
Find Parallels Invite email:
- It will look something like this:
- Open the email and click on “Download Parallels Desktop for Mac”:
- Click “Allow” when it asks if you want to allow downloads on “mail.google.com”
- Click “Allow” when it asks if you want to allow other macOS applications to use this google account:
- Sign in with your email and password if required on the google sign in page:
- Check your downloads for the installer, and open “Install Parallels Desktop.dmg”
- (Above picture shows if downloaded in Safari Browser)
- Next double-click on the big “Install Parallels Desktop” Icon in the installer window:
- Click on “Open” when it asks about opening the downloaded app:
- Click “OK” on the prompt that asks if it can access your downloads folder:
- Once you click ok it will proceed to download and verify some things:
- Uncheck the optional send data and then click “Accept”
- Input your credentials and click “ok” to install
- Click “Next” on the permissions notification
- Click “OK” for each of the prompts that come up for the folders it needs access to:
- Click “Finish”
- After a moment you should see a screen that looks like this, if so click "Ok":
- IMPORTANT: If this screen tells that it could not activate the license you will need to contact the help desk to get another invite, or come in to the TSC located in the basement of the Olsen Student Center to install the program. The invites expire after 7 days.
- Make sure you select “Download and Install” in the “Get Windows from IT” window:
- (If you click “Skip” at this screen, or it does NOT say “Get Windows from IT” then the install has gone wrong and you need to contact the help desk for assistance)
- You will see a “Downloading” screen with progress (you can minimize this screen but please do not close it):
- If you lose internet connection during the download progress it will resume from where it left off next time it connects to our network if you leave it open.
- Once the download is complete it will take a few minutes to verify the download and unpack it, this is normal:
- You will see a screen similar to this one show up:
- (This is the Parallels Virtual Machine, you will see all of the things you have on your Mac desktop on this desktop as well)
- Click “Allow” when it asks for access to the camera
- Click on the start menu and click the “Access” program located somewhere near the top of the list:
- Click on “Accept” for the license agreement:
- Click ”Close” on the your privacy matters screen:
- Click “Sign in” at the top right of the Access window:
- Sign in with your email address and password and follow any prompts on this screen:
- You can close out of access and then close out of the “Parallels Installer” window as well:
- Next you will want to pin “Parallels Desktop” to the dock:
- Two finger click “Parallels Desktop” icon in the bottom bar
- Hover over “Options”
- Click on “Keep in Dock”
You are done with the configuration portion.
